Top 10 Anti-Cancer Foods

Let the food be the medicine or the medicine becomes the food is the usual saying, the food you eat have effect on your health, it either influence your health positively or negatively. If you eat right, your body system also respond in a positive way by keeping you fit and healthy, and reducing the risk of developing chronic diseases like cancer, heart diseases and diabetes.

Cancer in particular can be genetic, but its development is highly influenced by your choice of diet. Nature has blessed us with food (especially plants) that is beneficial to the body, both in terms of prevention and treatment of certain types of disease. These plants are loaded with bioactive compounds, which when taken in the right state, and proportion can build the immune system against diseases and also inhibit the growth of cancer.        

Leafy Green Vegetables

Dark green vegetables like kale, lettuce, spinach, cabbage, watercress are loaded with abundant biological active compound that when digested protect cells from DNA damages, inhibits cancer growth, and kill cancer cells.

Cauliflower and Broccoli sprout

Cruciferous vegetables like cauliflower and broccoli contain antioxidants that help boost immunity, reduce oxidative stress from free radicals, protecting cells, and control abnormal cell growth.

Turmeric

Turmeric is a widely used spice in many cuisines and is also applicable in traditional medicine to prevent and treat health ailments. It has been reported to possess anti-inflammatory, anti-bacterial, and anti-cancer properties. It found that curcumin in turmeric may help prevent and treat cancer.

Noni

Morinda citrifolia commonly called Noni or Noni juice is an evergreen plant from Southeast Asia. Noni has a fleshy, yellowish-white fruit that has been used in traditional medicines for wound healing, treatment of diarrhea, skin diseases, and as a general tonic. Is generally rich in vitamin C, and anti-inflammatory and antioxidant benefits; relieve pain and support the immune system

Tomatoes

Tomato is a good source of vitamins A, C, and E which help balance and equip the immune system against the effects of free-radicals. An antioxidant called lycopene is also found in tomato which helps prevent carcinogenesis by protecting molecular cell mutation.  

Garlic

Crushed or chopped garlic produces a phytochemical compound called Allicin.

Allicin in garlic is commonly known for its anti-bacterial properties but can also fight cancer by possessing the ability to slow down cell proliferation and prevent the formation of carcinogenic substances in the body. 

Berries

Berries are an excellent sources of vitamin C and also contain cancer-fighting phytochemicals like, anthocyanosides in blueberries, and resveratrol in red grapes which could protect the body from cell damage that could result to cancers e.g skin cancer, lung cancer, and breast cancer.

Olive Oil

Extra-virgin olive oil is well known as one the healthiest cooking oil, is loaded with nutrients that can benefit the body by prevention of heart-related diseases as well as an anti-cancer

Oleocanthal is a natural organic compound found in extra virgin olive oil, it possesses some antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties. Oleocanthal inhibits the growth of breast cancer cells.  

Carrots

Carrots contain some vitamins and phytochemicals that can protect against cancers of the breast, mouth, esophagus and stomach. Carrot contains beta-carotene, an antioxidant that protects the cell membranes and inhibits cancer growth.   

Citrus fruits

Citrus fruits like lemon, lime, oranges, and grapefruits have been associated with lowers risk of cancer when consumed. They are a good source of vitamin C and some other flavonoids that have been shown to inhibit the growth and spread of tumors.
