Stay Hydrated With High Water Content Fruits and Vegetables

Keeping the body hydrated has been associated with numerous health benefits, water accounts for about 60% of the human body and it is essential for every cell in the body to function properly. To maintain the fluid balance in the body, you need to stay hydrated by drinking a sufficient amount of water daily.

Water regulates the body temperature, prevent dry mouth, keeps skin supple, cleanse the body, promotes cardiovascular health, and help muscles & joints works well.

Drinking plain water is enough and sufficient to benefit the body of some health benefits, on the other hand, water has no taste which makes it somehow difficult for some people to meet daily body requirements of water. But less worry, because nature is always there to serve humanity better.

A great number of fruits and vegetables composed of high water content which can be substituted for plain water to get a pleasant taste to enable one drink more and as well reap some other health benefits they offer to the body aside staying hydrated.  

  • Cucumber

Cucumber contain about 97% of water, which makes it a great choice to stay hydrated, including other impressive health benefits that cucumber can offer. Cucumber is low in calorie and contains many important vitamins and minerals with potential health benefits, including hydration, weight loss, lowers cholesterol, and glowing skin.   

Cucumber contains magnesium, potassium and vitamin K which are vital for proper functioning of the cardiovascular system.   

  • Lettuce

 96% of lettuce consists mainly of water. Taking lettuce juice not only keep one hydrated but loaded with other health benefits like promoting weight loss, lowers blood pressure, boosts immunity with the potent antioxidants.

Lettuce is a good source of folate, vitamin A and vitamin K which makes it an excellent choice to fight anemia.  

  • Tomato

This fleshy vegetable can be prepared as juice, salad, puree, stew, and soup. 95% of a tomato is made up of water. Tomato is a nutritious plant food, it contains carotenoids which are lutein and lycopene which help protect the eye. Antioxidants and vitamin C are also present in tomato which gives it the ability to fight cancer cells and inhibits tumor growth.

  • Watermelon

This refreshing fruit is mostly soaked with water. Each juicy bite contains about 92% of water which can keep one hydrated, watermelon is also a good source of lycopene, beta-carotene, and vitamin C.

The antioxidant in watermelon such as vitamin C, help boost immunity, combating effects of free radicals like cancer. Lycopene has been linked to lower the risk of prostate cancer. 

Consuming a glass of watermelon juice can relieve summer headaches hence, it is considered as sweet and refreshing summer snack. Eating whole watermelon provide fiber which promotes gut health by preventing constipation and aids regular bowel movement.    

  • Spinach

Spinach is another hydrating vegetable from the leafy green vegetable family. About 92% of raw spinach is water. It is an excellent choice to be included in diets; it can be taking as smoothie to also enjoy the fiber content and other plant proteins that are loaded in spinach. it is a wonderful source of iron, folate, vitamin E, A, and C.  

  • Strawberry

Strawberry is a bright red, sweet and juicy fruit with 91% of water. Strawberry is refreshing and hydrating fruit loaded with health benefits, it is an excellent source of vitamin C, an antioxidant essential for immunity and skin health. The potassium found in strawberry helps in regulating blood pressure.

It is considered safe for diabetics patients because it contains a considerably low amount of sugar mostly in the form of glucose, fructose, and sucrose, and prevents a big spike in both blood sugar and insulin levels.
